10 “trainees” turned up with bikes, turbos, heart rate monitors and drinks (and with a fair level of apprehension) before Ben led everyone into an intensive hour’s programme of hard effort and commitment that saw a lot of power being developed - as well as some grim faces.

British cycling's funding nearly doubles
Sport England has awarded British Cycling £24.3 million in funding for 2009 to 2013 to deliver grassroots sport as part of a plan to get one million more people playing sports The funding represents a 96% increase compared to the 2005-2009 funding period, the second highest increase of the 46 sports eligible for funding.

Its like coming in from the cold...In terms of the Sports Personality Awards Nicole Cooke laid the foundations last year in the wider publics view, before what has been quite an astonishing recognition for Chris Hoy, in particular, and cycling in general this year.
