Faster Group ride - With Norwood Paragon

Submitted by rccadmin on Tue, 01/13/2009 - 18:29

Sat 17/1/09 Faster Group Ride. Usual meeting time and place (The Angel, Woodhatch at 0900) then a steady ride for one and a half hours, getting quicker towards the end so that we are fully warmed up and ready when we rendezvous at Parkgate with some riders from Norwood Paragon.

We’ll then split into groups and ride in these groups around the Newdigate circuit practicing close and brisk group riding. This will not be a race but will be good experience of group riding at a faster pace in the company of both established Redhill and Norwood Paragon riders.

Frozen trails and frozen toes...

27 hardy mountain bikers including four (brave) new faces gathered by a frozen Godstone Pond, before setting off up Gravelly Hill. We crossed the bridge over the A22

before getting nice and cool running down past Woldingham School. A quick climb and descent round Haliloo Road golf course got everyone warm again, and then,

after a short road stretch the climb up to the North Downs ridge made it considerably warmer. A fast run down from Gangers left everyone with grins before the tea stop at Knights,

Group Therapy !

Well done to you brave 12 who came out on a freezing night to undergo this second turbo session under Ben’s guidance.

I don’t think that anyone who also did the first session said that it was any easier – but who wants easy ?

Big thanks again to Ben though for again running a session – it’s much appreciated.

Don’t forget that he is being good enough to lead a third and last one on Tue 20th – same location (Redhill URC Church Hall) and time ( 7:30 for 8:00)

Faster training ride

Usual arrangement for riding on Saturday (9:00 at The Angel, Woodhatch) but it could potentially be cold (freezing or below over Friday night and early Sat morning) and I expect ice still on some of the smaller roads so likelihood is to stay on main roads – subject to everything else, it’s likely to be a longer ride , 3 – 4 hours. Bring some money so that we can do a café stop somewhere.

Core Strength Training

Your legs aren’t the only part of your body that need to be in condition to ride well competitively.

One of our own members, Steve Young, who runs his own successful personal training business, will be talking about and demonstrating (with your help!!!!) core strength exercises and similar matters all with the aim of having us in tip-top condition for the start of the season.
