Scramble! Scramble! The D Day spirit at Horne!

Before I post all the photos from the Round 3 TT at Horne, did you know that the golf course there was a forward airfield for a squadron of Spitfires during the D Day landings in 1944?

Pop into the club house and see the photos, it's amazing.

Redhill riders pass a plaque at the 1 mile mark commemorating this, I'll tell you where it is next week, it's easy to miss.

A sunny and brisk 58 miles...

A fit looking bunch turned out on this sunny day and as leader I was struggling to keep the faster boys from disappearing and the slower riders interested.

Thankfully Bruce was there to help with the route, he knows the lanes as well as Graham (absent with other regular Sunday riders in Spain).

I held things up with a rare puncture and somewhere past Lydhurst we lost one man; apologies, we came back but couldn't find you!

Alan takes us on a trip to Happy Valley

Eighteen of us gathered at The Inn On The Pond and set out along the familiar N 21 cycle route towards Woldingham.

We turned left to Hextalls Lane then on to Willey Park Farm where we picked up the Green Lane bridleway to Happy Valley. We climbed the trail up to Farthing Downs, where Gareth and Richard made light work of the very steep climb where the rest of us took a slightly longer but less steep option.

Win # 2, PB for Jon Masters

Jon Masters kept a clean sheet in Redhill CC's 2008 time trial series, winning round 2 in an impressive personal best time for the course of 20:50.

That is the first time in quite a while that we have seen a sub-21 by a RCC rider at Horne.

Trevor Chilman was second, with Noel Miles from East Grinstead Triathlon Club in third.

The top three from Redhill CC was the same as last week.

In the handicap competition, Simon Baldwin picked up 10 points by posting the biggest improvement on his time from last week.

The dusty trails on a summer evening

A glorious evening beckoned as we gathered on Reigate Hill.

The 6 of us headed out across Banstead golf course and over to Epsom Downs.

Wiggling up and down several bridleways, we traversed over to Headley before heading back down Tye Lane towards Reigate.

The trails were dusty and fast where we covered 18 miles in an hour and a half.

We were very disappointed to find the Sportsman closed so Mark led us over to the Fox on the A217 for a quick refreshment.

New PB for Trevor Chilman

An excellent performance by the Redhill riders on Sunday, with Trevor, Jon and Duncan all breaking the hour at the Norwood Paragon CC 25.

Trevor topped the Redhill list with a new PB of 57:58, Jon Masters recorded 58:24, Duncan broke the elusive hour barrier with 59:59 and Denis Worster completed the line up with 1:36:21.

Laurence Harding - Agiskoviner won the event with a scorching ride of 51:17 a full 2 minutes ahead of anyone else !

100k MTB Challenge

8 Redhill Cycling Club members took part in the annual West Drayton Mountain Bike Club’s 100k Classic. The route takes in the trails around the Chiltern Hills where there are 70 and 30K alternatives.

Steve, Alan, Alex, Jon L and John T set off first with Gareth, Garry and Richard following 5 minutes later. The two groups met up just before crossing over the M25 where soon afterwards a rather long detour was taken. Following the arrows, we found ourselves on the 30K route returning back to the start. We therefore had to repeat a section again, adding on about 15K.
