Frank takes a trip to Happy Valley

Spurning the delights of the Purbeck Hills eleven of us elected to visit Fanny’s instead.
The route, uphill to Spring Bottom Lane and then the steep track to Willey Farm was fairly dry. From Willey Farm our way took us through the North Downs Way to Happy Valley, over the ridge to Hooley and on to Chipstead. Entering Fanny’s from the rear.

Newport Track Trip

On Sunday a dedicated band of 5 made their way to the Newport Velodrome for the Redhill CC track trip.

Whilst this number was initially disappointing, with many people either unavailable or having to pull out, it did mean that those that attended had the benefit of the close attention of coach Courtney Rowe and this seemed to pay off handsomely as all of the new guys quickly adapted to track riding and the session rapidly transitioned into a tough track workout, rather than a "starter session".

Paul Read Does It Again

Please ignore the results page: Writer under training.

That said Paul Read's early season form continued on Sunday as he posted 56.16 for a very hilly 21 mile SCCU Sporting Time Trial. As I headed for the very uphill finish line Paul blazed a trail past me through the lashing wind and rain.

Paul Read Leads the Team

Paul Read leads the Redhill team at the record breaking 44th East Surrey Hardriders Time Trial

On a perfect morning for racing in the lull before the Monday storm Paul Read was the fastest of the Redhill riders on the 9th March at the 44th running of the East Surrey Hardriders 29.9 mile time trial. Paul achieved a time of 1hr 14min 32 sec for the course that started and ended in Leigh, taking in Reigate Heath, Betchworth, N Holmwood, Capel, Horsham, Rusper and Newdigate.

Lee's Ride from Westcott

19 riders turned up for a cold morning start at Westcott. After waiting for some late arrivals we set off towards leith hill climbing the long sandy track to start of the summer lightning trail. After negoiating the trail with no injuries we headed up the long climb to leith hill tower. After sprinting to the top of the tower in record time Gareth grabbed himself a coffee not realising I had another 5 miles of downhill single track planned. He therefore had to ride back down the other side of the hill one handed much to the amusement of the group.

Exclusive!! Puncture mended with toothpaste tube.

Nine riders met at The Angel for the clubs Intermediate ride. The Team was made up of a few new faces including 9 years old Nicholas who was 'stoker' for his Dad Bruce on the tandem. Rob Pace who has taken up cycling after purchasing a very fast looking Planet X carbon frame bike through the cycle to work scheme, joined us for his first club ride-look out for him on Sunday rides soon.

Frank heads for the hills

Fourteen riders assembled at the last minute venue change of Mercers Park for the ride today. We left on time collecting four more from the Inn on the Pond on the way.
We were joined by newcomers Sarah and Adam as I led the way onto the N21 route.
As we rode I overhead a smattering of conversation which went something like this. Blah blah tarmac blah blah level blah blah tracks so decided on a last minute change to the planned route.
Arriving at Brewer St we left the N21 and headed uphill to Bletchingley (renamed belchingley in one of Garry’s emails)
