Dave Dent wins Sporting Time Trial

Dave Dent (Wightlink / Wight Mountain RT) narrowly missed out on the course record in the Redhill CC Open 18 mile Sporting Time Trial on Sunday. With a time of 42 minutes and 8 seconds Dent was within 6 seconds of the record set by Andrew Bye in 2007. He also picked up the prize for the Veterans category. The women’s category was won by Kim Hurst (RAF Cycling) in 49:57.

Newlands Corner to Reigate

Arriving at Newlands Corner, there was quite a gathering of eager cyclists all sipping cups of tea. Not wanting to miss out, those of us on the early ride from Reigate grabbed a quick cuppa before setting off.

Slightly later than planed, due to a puncture, we headed east towards Reigate. The first part through woods is fairly easy going, but then it gets a bit muddy where we had to avoid the rather deep puddles. Somewhere along here, Paul punctured, which was quickly fixed.

Sporting TT - Startsheet

Thanks to everyone who entered.

Out of this year's 69 entrants, Dave Dent (Wightlink / Wight Mountain RT) finished highest in 2007 and will therefore be the last rider off at 10:10 AM.

I have tried my best to accommodate all requests for early and late starts.

Anyone who provided an email address will receive a startsheet via email, otherwise I will send a printed copy by post.

Reigate Hill to Tattenham Corner

On a crisp, cold sunny day 12 of us headed past Colley Hill and the Buckland Hills and up Tye Lane to Headley. The tracks were at last beginning to dry out and it seemed much easier to make progress than in recent months. From Headley we went down under the motorway and up to Ebbisham Lane and on to Nohome Farm and round the edge of the Downs to the cafe. Return was via Langley Vale and Stane Street and past Nower Wood, down Tye Lane and across the Golf Course. Total Distance 20 miles with no incidents or punctures..............Mark

First Outing Victory for Redhill CC

Saturday saw the first local Time Trial of the season with the Crawley CC 14.8mile sporting time trial starting at Faygate. An undulating course looping up to Rusper, Newdigate, Parkgate back along Partridge Lane provided a stern early season test with a combination of stiff, energy sapping climbs and some top gear, high speed downhill sections that saw riders hitting speeds of over 40 mph.

The weather was absolutely perfect for time trialling with a dry road, virtually no breeze and bright, almost warm sunshine.

Teased by Bocketts Farm, we ended up at Box Hill

22 riders mustered at the top of Reigate Hill on what was a perfect morning for an off road ride. Setting off promptly at 09.30 we rode across the top of Colley Hill to Headley and on via Langley Lane towards Leatherhead Downs. For once we took the bridleway running adjacent to the golf course down a brisk descent, crossing the main rode and onwards in the general direction of Bocketts Farm. Progress was swift, making Bocketts by 1030 so we pushed on, to much dismay and threats of mutiny in the ranks (!), via Bookham Wood, followed by a short road section through Westhumble.

It’s not raining so lets go on the club ride

Whether it was the unexpected bonus of a fine sunny morning or the magnetic pull of the tea shop at Penshurst I don’t know but there were 13 riders on today’s club ride including new member Chris out for the first time. A stiff head wind from the South West meant we had to work hard in places but we bowled along at a good pace to Lingfield and on the climb through Dormansland. The lanes from there to Cowden provided good shelter and after Cowden the early lunch brigade left us to return home.
