100k MTB Challenge

8 Redhill Cycling Club members took part in the annual West Drayton Mountain Bike Club’s 100k Classic. The route takes in the trails around the Chiltern Hills where there are 70 and 30K alternatives.

Steve, Alan, Alex, Jon L and John T set off first with Gareth, Garry and Richard following 5 minutes later. The two groups met up just before crossing over the M25 where soon afterwards a rather long detour was taken. Following the arrows, we found ourselves on the 30K route returning back to the start. We therefore had to repeat a section again, adding on about 15K.

The 25 degree heat was taking its toll so Jon and John opted for the 70k route, with the additional loop. Garry, Richard and Alex took a section out of the 100k route to compensate for the earlier extra loop, (5:45 hours). Alan, Steve and Gareth persevered to complete the whole course at (9 hours).

Also taking part were Louise and Mark Poynton who completed the 30Km route.

Any ride of this distance requires physical and mental toughness with careful thought to pace setting and energy replenishment. Well done to all those who took part.
