Gentle ride to Godstone

With all the recent rain, a sunny day was forecast making it a perfect day for getting out on your bike. Alex had taken a number of regular riders to the Devil’s Punchbowl, so here was an opportunity to for a gentler ride to encourage any newcomers.

A big welcome to Rana, Alan, Tony & Matt who joined us for the first time, Catherine who has recently joined the club, and to Cheryl who is now becoming a regular rider. It was also good to see Mark back in the saddle for the first time since he dislocated his shoulder.

Reflecting on 2007

Leaves falling from the trees and the crunch of frost underfoot means that the audax season has just ended. Perhaps you will indulge me if I reflect on the ups and downs of the past 12 months or so.

My audax season really began in March, having returned to the bike after 5 months of little or no riding. My indulgence in beer and good food over winter meant I was packing some extra pounds, something that was commented on in early spring club runs....

Tour of the Hills

A few months late posting this! Better late than never! I did the ride, a pretty wet start. There were 187 entrants, 60 people blew out on the day probably because of the rain so 127 starters and only 102 finishers! Later in the day the weather was perfect: cool. This would be hard on a hot day! There were lot's of punctures & broken wheels.

Alan's ride from Godstone

21 riders gathered at Godstone Green on a slightly misty but pleasantly warm morning for a ride in the glorious August sunshine. We crossed the A22 bridge and along the gravel track (where we won’t mention John Griffith’s fall because no doubt he’d be embarrassed about it!) and on to the familiar NCR 21 but we soon turned right and emerged on War Coppice Lane in Chaldon.

Masters takes Round 15

Jon Masters won Round 15 of Redhill CC's 2007 time trial series at Horne, in a time of 21 minutes and 13 seconds.

Duncan Murdoch was second and Trevor Chilman was third.

Masters also posted the best time improvement of the evening, to take 10 points in the handicap competition.

Weekend in Exmoor

All of Helen's promises of an exciting and challenging weekend were more than fulfilled. The venue for our 'FastTrackMTB' experience was a two-storey camping barn dug into the hillside above Dulverton; it's an extension of a working farm complete with watermill. The rustic accommodation was basic but comfortable with views across to the Exe valley where we would enjoy the delights of off-roading in Exmoor.
