Lee led an excellent ride incorporating the Summer Lightening and Barry Knows best single track sections. The rest of the ride covered Leith Hill and Peaslake.
Dear super fit cycling supremo,
I hope I might be able to tempt you to think about doing an Audax or two before Christmas but certainly to get some in your diary for the New Year.
24 going on 30 was the final mileage on Saturday’s ride, with Russell making the number up to 13 after a couple of months off with back trouble.
Down the hill to Merstham and a climb across the diagonal to the North Downs Ridge. The route took us by Old Coulsdon and Farthing Downs. Crossing the A23 at Downs Road.
I turned up at the Hillingdon Circle Circuit in Hayes at 1.55pm ready for a 2.00pm start, a bit later than the 1.20pm I had envisaged due to traffic and getting lost. (serve me right for not taking a proper map.)
There was an afternoon of womens racing set up; a bit of a taster for the new birds plus some coaching for any Cat 1-4 riders who cared to come along. Oh, and some races.
What a change from last week where the trails were dusty and now they are wet, slippery and very muddy. Fortunately I had swapped to my winter tyres and was very grateful of their grip. The mud splattered everywhere, winter riding is well and truly here.
Mike Ormerod was leader so apologies Mike if I'm jumping the gun! A good turnout (was it 15 people?) and we headed off at an easy pace, through quiet Sunday morning lanes to the Hever area where I always think the scenery becomes delightful. It's so unspoilt, I can imagine Henry the VIII's hunting parties that traversed these fields. Mike was testing a new route with wonderful surprises. Onwards and upwards to Mark Cross, about 39 miles, where we had a tea stop and had already lost of few people who needed to get back for lunch.
An early morning fast hilly ride from Inn on the Pond to Reigate Hill. This was followed by another hilly ride to Box Hill, led by Gareth.
An early morning fast ride from the Inn on the Pond, then the main ride from Outwood to Redhill Airdrome.
Paul Read is Redhill CC's 25-mile champion for 2007 after posting the fastest time out of the Redhill riders in this morning's SCCU 25 at Horsham.
Read came home in a blistering 54:57, more than 4 minutes quicker than nearest rival Jon Masters.
After taking the team prize in last Saturday's Redmon 10, Team Redhill were at it again today; this time the trio of Read, Masters and Trevor Chilman doing the honours, with Chilman also recording a PB.
There were 12 RCC members entered for today's event, and out of the 10 that rode, 5 recorded sub-hour times.
