Gentle ride to Godstone

With all the recent rain, a sunny day was forecast making it a perfect day for getting out on your bike. Alex had taken a number of regular riders to the Devil’s Punchbowl, so here was an opportunity to for a gentler ride to encourage any newcomers.

A big welcome to Rana, Alan, Tony & Matt who joined us for the first time, Catherine who has recently joined the club, and to Cheryl who is now becoming a regular rider. It was also good to see Mark back in the saddle for the first time since he dislocated his shoulder.

We set off at a gentle pace following the NCR 21 to the top of Gravely Hill. Some easier options were offered to avoid the steep slopes and steps enabling everyone to ride within their ability. Heading round Godstone we stopped for a cup of tea at the Knights garden centre. Their new coffee shop has had a face lift with a large variety of coffees and teas. However, the range of cakes offered was not up to their previous standard where the carrot cake was particularly missed.

After tea, Frank, Alan & Alan headed their own ways, while the rest of us returned to the Inn on the Pond. A relaxing drink and a bite to eat rounded off a very pleasant morning.
