Wet ride with John T

A fantastic reception at the Bear Inn, today's tea break on a wet and windy ride from Horton Country Park in Epsom via Cobham. By prior arrangement, the pub staff were ready and waiting with great coffee and tea, towels and welcome warmth. The sudden temperature increase seemed to go to one or two riders heads, with an impromptu dance lesson from Helen and Alan. Alan insisted he was leading, but it didn't look that way. As the "Strictly..." season reaches its finale, it would appear everyone's at it.

Fast training ride details for the weekend

This week Paul Read will be "leading" the Saturday ride (8/12/07): 7.30am from the bus shelter in Leigh village (opposite the Plough Pub) - Usual Surrey League based circuits with a few variations possible, as Paul will be steering this week. (Henfold Hill/Newdigate/Norwood Hill/Charlwood etc)

Sunday (9/12/07) will be Trevor Chilman leading the ride as follows:

The basic route is;

Reigate Hill to Walton Downs

Reigate Hill car park,Saturday, morning,18 riders, sun out quite warm so off we went down the hil to Gatton Bottom ,under the motorway up the hill and across the fields to Banstead common via a short woods excursion as recommended by Alex.

Walton Hill came next with a diversion downhil next to Ebbisham Farm under the motorway to Headley.

From Headley under the motorway to Sheep Walk and onto Walton Downs where I was rather pleased ( or is that releived)to top the downs exactly opposite the tea shop.

Pebble Hill at <strike>One</strike> 8AM

Last Sundays training ride was made up of Tim, Gavin, Keith R, Leigh, Dunc and Me. Unfortunately Dunc suffered a mechanical after only 100 yards and decided to limp home.

I was supposed to be 'leading' and had planned a route that went up Pebble Hill, through Headley towards the Hungry Hill road course, taking in Ranmore along the way.

Having looped around the the HH course a couple of times we cut back towards Shere dropping down Coombe Lane. We then headed back along the A24 towards Dorking.

Report of the latest rides:

Saturday's ride (17/11/07) was lead by Leigh Smithers, although physically it was lead by the Read "twins" (Paul & Keith)who set a strong pace on the front around the usual Leigh based Surrey League circuits.

Beating the rain!

The forecast was for heavy rain all day with strong winds and low temperatures. Sounded like a good excuse to stay indoors and watch TV. However it was dry and though a strong wind was blowing it looked promising for a pleasant ride, but not to Compton but to Cranleigh where after a swift cuppa the seven of us headed back. A total of 45 miles and back by 12.30 not bad and Josh Evans, who joined us for his first club ride , also enjoyed it, so we hope to see him again.

Lee's Ride from Westcott

An eager 17 riders turned up at Westcott for the start of the ride. After much debate on how many layers to wear we all set off up Wolvans Lane to the start of Summer lightning. We all completed the trail, with no problems. It was great to see Adam back in the saddle after his injury enjoying his singletrack.

We then all set off for Leith hill tower, picking up Darren Williams on the way. A few members completed the very technical climb to the top without stopping. An excellient achievement considering the wet conditions.
