One more kick ,thats all,go around the roots across the ploughed field and were back at the car Park. Its only 12.30 but it seems a lot longer since we started with a long long downhill trail to lead us on to the south Downs.
This is good trail riding, steep climbs, fast downhills challenging surfaces -often loose stones-puncture country!!.
All week the weather had been unseasonably warm and the forecast for our Sunday ride was for a temperature of 23 degrees and with Cinders Café at the Lavender Line in Isfield as our destination a lengthy scenic ride was indicated.
Ride report from Afan
I was joined on my Sunday ride by Fran, Phil, Byron, Paul and Terry.
Having taken the road out of the L&A Centre we picked up a lane at Bryn which took us to a farm through which a bridleway was alleged to pass, a short distance along the path brought us to a field with no apparent way across.
27 mountain bikers from Redhill Cycling Club spent 3 days in South Wales enjoying the trials in Cwm Carn and Afan Forrest. Here’s what some of them had to say.
With a starting group of 26 riders and the spring sunshine already approaching the low 20's, we set out for the wilds of Epsom and Ashtead Common just before 9.45am. Through Horton Park into Epsom common a reasonable speed was set up front, taking us quickly from Epsom to Ashtead Common. A long loop this time brought us up through the winter Horse Ride and to the Glanmire Farm bridleway towards Chessington.
Inn on the Pond to Godstone
With no email reminder about the early ride, it was encouraging to have 7 of us prepared to do a few extra miles before the main ride. Setting off at a good pace we took the NCR21 along the familiar route up to the A22 where they have built a new bridge. A fast decent into Godstone ensured that we arrived in good time for the main ride.

A case of Sod's Law
I arrived early having made all the necessary preparations required of a ride leader. The route was well rehearsed, in fact I knew it backwards - something that would soon unknowingly come in useful.................
Gradually fellow cyclists were arriving and I was getting bike & equipment out of the car, opening and closing doors. Suddenly and inexplicably I found the central locking had gone down with the keys, helmet etc in the car !- something that had never happened before.
Reigate to Leigh
This morning’s early ride started from Reigate Heath (not Reigate Hill – Alan!). Instead of taking a direct 1½ mile route to Leigh, we went across the Heath to Betchworth. After a comment implying that we were going somewhat slow, the pace was hotted up for the road section to Leigh. Last week there were complaints that I was going too fast!
Eight of us enjoyed a good 5 mile warm up, ready for Garry’s ride to Leith Hill.
