Gorrick Brass Monkeys MTB Race report

It’s race time again! I’ve not raced for a few months now and have missed it – I was ill with flu for the Autumn XC race, so raring to go for this one. The weather forecast was pretty grim in the build up, so I was preparing for very wet! The twist for Brass Monkeys is that you choose your race length (by time, either 2, 3 or 4 hours) and then you have to complete as many laps as you can within that time.

Late summer sun for the MTB XC ride

The MTB XC group enjoyed a ride from Abinger Roughs in late summer sunshine.

This turned into a ride with a surprising amount of climbing and numerous sandy sections dotted throughout. The long single track  climb out of Farley Green to Winterfold certainly helped us hone our sand riding skills (with some rocks and roots to add extra spice) to a perfection. I think everyone was grateful when we reached the top and  hit the flowing single track to the tea stop.

Redhill CC Summer TT Interclub competition with Norwood Paragon CC

Wednesday 20 July saw the annual Interclub TT with our friends in Norwood Paragon.  In previous year Norwood have shown strong form a beaten us with decent margins.  This year the turnout from Redhill was a fantastic 17 riders.  The rules of competition changed this year with the fastest female and fastest 5 male riders’ times counting for the final score….and Redhill were beaten by a mere 30 seconds.
