The MTB section of Redhill CC is an active group of about 50 riders of all abilities and ages. Our main rides are on Saturday mornings starting at 9.30, for 2-3 hours, usually with a coffee and cake stop. Our usual ride areas are the Surrey Hills (Leith, Holmbury, Pitch and Winterfold), Swinley Forest, North Downs (Ranmore, Mickleham, Reigate Hill and around Caterham). Sometimes there are mid-week rides, and we organise a number of away-day or long weekends away to other great riding areas such as the South Downs, Bike Park Wales, the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Exmoor, Peak District, Lake District and North Yorkshire.
Each ride has a volunteer leader, who will nominate a starting location and plan the route based on trail conditions, weather and the size and ability of the group. We split the rides into Cross-Country (XC) and Trail categories. XC rides will be suitable for anybody with a little riding experience and reasonable fitness who would enjoy a Blue run in a trail centre. Trail rides will be faster and riders should be able to handle trail features found on Red trails at a trail centre. All our rides are non-drop, in other words we will travel at the speed of the slowest rider. The leader will give advice on any difficult features on the trail and carries a first-aid kit. Group size varies but a typical size is 12 riders. The leader will help to avoid losing any riders by sometimes asking an experienced rider to act as back marker, or by asking a rider to wait at a junction until all riders have passed.
Some riders enjoy MTB racing and there have been RCC teams in endurance races such as Brighton Big Dog and Gorrick's Torq in your Sleep 12-hour race. Some members also organise or participate in MTB-Orienteering events held in the area which are great fun and a challenge for those who enjoy map reading rather than following a GPS!
We are welcoming to new members so if you are new to the sport or the area, want to improve your knowledge of the trail network or just would like to ride with like-minded riders then get in touch.
