6.Chairman’s report

Adrian updated the committee on the recent present at Dorking Halls organised by the police. It had been well organised and although some were clearly 'anti cycling' it was felt that others will start to see clubs as part of the solution rather than the problem. Adrian noted that he had felt that some of the points raised about groups of cyclists were valid and needed action from the club - even though many of the problems were more applicable to sportives. These were mainly about Group size, behaviour around horses and shouting in residential areas and near homes - issued raised in the recent update.

Ian Taylor raised this point and said that he believed there was a groundswell of opinion within the club that the 'fun was being squashed out' of Saturday rides due to the increase in rules. He mentioned that on a recent ride, members had said they felt Adrian's update had become 'dictatorial'. Rick Gregory challenged this and asked Ian to expand. Ian said he was simply reporting general feeling but that the imposition of rules may be perceived to be spoiling things. The discussion focused on this for some time with the Committee agreeing to differ on some of the points Ian raised.

Ideas for controlling numbers suggested were a return to signing on, or issueing a limited number of wristbands for each ride. The question of capping club numbers may be raised at the AGM
