Marshalling in the Wild West…

…well Dunsfold actually.

I helped marshall the RCC hosted LVRC event on 22.06.14 and as expected had a mix of positive/negative responses from car drivers when requesting them to stop/take care as a cycle race was about to exit the upcoming junction. Nothing unusual in that. What was more worrying was that 2-3 out of a group of about 9 road cyclists plainly saw but chose to ignore me and carried on through the junction where the racers were exiting. As bad/worse was a father and young daughter on bikes. The ‘adult’ went over to the other side of the road as the racers exited whilst questioning aloud why he should have to stop, all the time ignoring the fact that his daughter had (sensibly) stopped and was being left behind.
