Did anyone see the doc on Ch4 Sunday evening (29th Dec)?
British cycle speed record was broken with 112mph with the assistance of a large windbreak provided by a truck and obviously appropriate gear ratios (he was towed up to 60 mph and then pedalled on to 112 mph). The slipstreaming became more effective the faster he got.
Full credit to the Guy however the main impression I got was that this record has great potential to be (easily) beaten. Perhaps the main obstacle is fear. The preparation looked a bit ad hoc and even on the day the choice of tyre width was hardly conclusive. The world record is apparently 167mph!!
Any views? Any RCC takers out there for a challenge? I'll offer to drive the truck.
