An initiative has been launched to help curb speeding along Gatton Park Road. Please go the petiton below and sign it!

As you might know, Gatton Park Road, which runs from the Merstham end of Redhill to Reigate is a popular route for road cyclists, mountain bikers and is a main route for 2 local schools.

Despite this being a 30mph limit for large parts, there is a terrible problem with speeding, for instance a survey carried out by the police revealed over 6000 vehicles a week travelling in excess of 40 and up to 65 mph in the 30 zone.

Add to this the ill thought out traffic control measures such as islands which force vehicles and cyclists together, it's a recipe for disaster. In fact, recently a pupil from the Royal Albert school was badly injured when hit by a car in the 30 zone.

In an attempt to get something done about the speeding and to get the council to reconsider the traffic calming measures, including removing the islands and putting in a cycling lane, there is a petition going with the council, which if we can get 100 signatures, will be put to the council in the New Year. Just one click from each RCC member would get three times the required number. So please do it now!

Many thanks in advance and thanks to Dave Roscorla for bringing it to our attention.
