Wiggins and Millar

I've been pondering what Cavendish said in support of Millar riding at the Olympics and subsequently what Wiggins said against Millar riding.

To offer a prison analogy...is prison to simply 'punish' or is it to 'punish and reform'? I suppose it depends on the seriousness of the crime. Millar is certainly no Ricco...but if someone commits a crime (arguably when young and under the influence of others) do they not deserve the opportunity to be accepted back in to society if they initially admit to the crime, demonstrate remorse and then offer something to society in return for the trust society now shows in them?

I find myself sitting on the fence with this one...and I am a big admirer of Millar for all the good he has done for cycling in recent years...not withstanding the fact he is such an unselfish rider. I suppose Wiggins assumes that any hint of doping (even from the past) will tarnish BCs squeaky clean image in the eyes of the wider public.
