I had the misfortune to have to ride down Markedge Lane past Fanny's Farm Shop and under the M25 today. It has been covered in grit 1 to 2 inches deep in places... with piles of loose grit on corners during the descent.
I did not dare go about 10mph descending and even then felt the wheels slipping once or twice. If you get down it with falling or puncturing, you will be lucky. What on earth someone is thinking of with this kind of road vandalism, I will never know. No warnings when you turn in from the Chipstead end...
