A personal preference, maybe, but for pictures that accompany news articles, I don't think it's necessary to have everyone in a line, smiling for the camera.
Shots of people actually on bikes are probably best, but difficult to get - failing that, how about, at the tea stop for example, just taking a picture of the group unawares?
