G4 Ride to the Bolney Estate Vineyard

Submitted by Peter Farnfield on Sat, 10/29/2016 - 15:40

A mixed group of riders today embarked on a gentlish ride south that was meant to take in a new stop at the Twineham Fisheries but instead we discovered a little gem at the Bolney Estate Vineyard. A first floor balcony overlooking the Vineyard is a real must go place on any summers day perhaps making an ideal stop for a Sunday social ride incorporating a light lunch and a glass of the local white wine.  Whilst some items on the menu appeared quite expensive the cake and coffee option was no more than one would expect at any cafe stop.

Pedal in Preston Park 25th Oct

Submitted by RoyB on Tue, 09/02/2014 - 14:14

Just a heads up for the event this year. It's an opportunity to ride around Britains oldest velodrome and raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Martlets, a local hospice. A few people rode down last year and made a long morning of it. The event lasts all day but last year there was an inter-club challenge in the morning to ride as many laps of the track in 30 mins. Road bikes allowed. www.pedalinprestonpark.co.uk

G3 Strike GOLD (Rimmed China Plates at Tea Stop)

Submitted by andrewsaunders on Sat, 07/12/2014 - 19:03

An delightful and excellently disciplined group took a lumpy ride to Craneligh via Peaslake, Leith and Holmbury. The main topic of conversation revolved around the delights high Class tea stops available in Cranleigh High Street based on which we declined the planned garden centre. The fragrant beauties in Truffles were treated to classy looking salads on china plates with GOLD rims.

A fine ride in sunshine with no mechanicals, which given the state of the roads was remarkable.

G3 100 miler

Submitted by adewebb on Fri, 06/27/2014 - 23:36

Like Rick, I am planning a G3 pace 100 miler with a single stop after 55 miles. This will be leaving at 8am from the Drome on Saturday 2nd August and taking approximately 6.5hours riding time with a half hour stop. Back at the Drome between 3 and 4pm. I will most likely take in all four of the London 100 hills that this ride is in preparation for and may well do a figure of 8 passing nearby after 45 miles so people not wanting the full 100 can make their way back easily.

I'll post a GPS file nearer the time.

G2 100 miler

Submitted by rickgregory on Thu, 06/26/2014 - 09:28

As in the last couple of years (does two make this a tradition?), I'm planning to lead a century ride for G2 in about 3 weeks time.

The route will be different from the last two, but I'm still working on it.

It will be an earlier than normal ride start - 0830 - from the 'drome and there will be two tea stops. Back before 5 (hopefully!)

There should be no serious hills.

Pace will be strictly G2 , but you should have done a few 60+ milers this year to be ready for this.

Max 10 riders and only those pre-booked. (3 takers so far)

G2 ride programme this summer

Submitted by rickgregory on Mon, 05/19/2014 - 09:32

First of all, I know two G2ers who are doing the LondonRide 100 this year, are there any other G2ers doing the ride?

Please respond to this posting if you are.

As last year, I’m proposing to lead some alternative G2 rides which are aimed at taking in some of the “interesting” bits of the London ride - Leith Hill, Newlands etc.  The first of these will be this coming Saturday (24th), when we'll head for Tillings via Leith Hill.

G5 go exploring and Leeson gets his timings wrong

Submitted by Peter Farnfield on Sun, 04/06/2014 - 12:17

In Brian Costello's absence at the Tour of Flanders where I understand he had some dramatic moments it fell to Peter F to lead the ride. Suggesting that we go south to explore a loop east of Haywards Heath towards Lewes seem to have some support so we set off directly south with a good crowd in tow comprising Peter F, Stuart G, Barry (with beard and a new rider with G5), Chris Grant, Simon Webster, Calvin, Leeson, Chris Stone, Norman Blisset and Angus - I never wear leggings or long sleeved shirts - welcome back.
