Matt becomes fastest ever over 25 miles

On Wednesday evening, RCC TT ace Matt Peel wrote his name into our history books with an extraordinary ride. Here is his account.

Another Wednesday night and another night chasing the holy grail for time trialists, the 30mph average. It's been a mixed bag out on the A3 the past few weeks strong winds and scorching temperatures have resulted in some varying times across the field but last week's 20:10sec over the 10 mile course gave me my first 30mph of the season and a full aero bike re-fit over the following days had made me confident a solid time could be banked.

The previous night the interclub race had woken up the legs again after some heavy miles over the weekend and it made the difference. I got to the turn at 31mph and knew something ridiculous was on. Knowing the final 5 miles were fast I only had to be within touching distance of the magical 30mph to be within a shout. I crossed the line with my Garmin showing 49:57sec. Racing back to the HQ to confirm my time the wait felt like forever but there it was....49:59sec. A new personal best by 2min 20sec and beating the previous club record for the distance by just over a minute. When Chris said I'd have a chance in beating his record during our long winter rides together I never thought I would've beaten it by that margin. A huge thank you goes to the hosts A3crg who time after time organise some fantastic events and everyone at the club who have supported me since joining 4 years ago. Next target a 30mph 50tt?
