Heaven Spent

Five G2ers escaped with me from the melee of G2-G4 ditherers and set off to enjoy the sunshine at Heaven Farm.

After Turners Hill we cut across to Sharpthorne before turning south passed Horsted Keynes and then looping back through Fletching, across the A274 again at Sheffield Green and up to the Stable Tearooms at Heaven Farm.

There the sun did indeed shine, the birds tweeted and the wasps did what wasps do. The Stable's signature cream tea with strawberry jam was as irresistible to them as it was to Michelle. She fled indoors along with Nick and Richard while the rest of us enjoyed the sunshine with our less-attractive-to-wasps nibbles.

Amid rumblings about my not describing the route as lumpy on the website, I offered the words of encouragement that even if they were spent now, we were more than halfway and there were fewer lumps on the return journey (omitting to remind them that they had to go back over Turners Hill again).

So picture time with the wonderful back drop at Heaven Farm, Richard was resplendent in his hard/well earned Mont Ventoux jersey - Chapeau Richard.

The return via Chelwood Common, Wych Cross and Sharpthorne was steadier in the by then very warm sunshine, rewarded for some with chocolate milk and rock cakes at the 'Drome caf.

Nice ride, usual G2 sociability and good company, thanks especially to Matthew for helping out on the front.

50 miles, 3400 feet at an appropriate G2 speed.
