Simon Fifth at the First Redhill Sprint Triathlon

It was an early start, but a fine morning for racing at Mercer's Park with the Male U40 wave setting off at 0700, and Vets and Ladies going off next. The water was a balmy 22 degrees which made wetsuits optional, but most competitors kept them on for one 750m lap of the boating lake. Up the ramp and into transition, the bike leg took Redhill CC members into familiar territory with a climb up to the A25, and then one lap of the Bletchingly road circuit with a fast descent of Coopers Hill, and the climbs of Dayseys Hill and Scotts Hill coming back towards the A25.

The run was two laps of the lake, and although relatively flat, there was a section of long grass through the first field, and then some twists and turns through the trees, and over roots to keep it interesting.

The race was won in the blistering time of 1:02:34 by Andy Hamilton, with professional triathlete Mark Yeoman over four minutes back in 2nd place. Simon Baldwin finished first of the Redhill racers with a superb 5th overall. A good course, and well organised, hopefully we will see the race again in 2015.
