A Sussex Charmer

Sussex Charmer is the name of a local cheese; it is also the name of a new cafe on the site of the old Rudgwick Brickworks. Next door is a micro-brewery which desrves a more leisurely ride on another day.

The Drome was packed. I recruited a group from the assembled crowd and, as we headed out, realised there were 16 of us.

We had a fast uneventful ride via Ockley and Mole Street. Arriving in Rudgwick we found Adrian plus the 'official' G3 ride, who had left 30 minutes before us. The staff were somewhat overwhelmed by the 16 cyclists suddenly turning up but the cheese on toast and flapjacks were worth the wait.

Adrian's group went off to Box Hill to meet James Bonham. We headed for home at a brisk pace via Weare Street. Completed about 48 miles at an average speed of a little under 16 mph - definitely a G3 rather than G2 pace.
