Redhill CC Pioneer 'Lateral' TTT Formation

Riders from Redhill Cycling Club have recently been caught testing out a highly original formation for riding a team time trial.

The idea was the brainchild of the club's innovative racing secretary, Richard Sanders, allegedly.

'Traditionally, teams have focused on the negative effects of drag due to headwind', commented Sanders, allegedly, 'but our research has led us to concentrate instead on countering sidewinds, by using a two-abreast formation, with a tricycle bringing up the rear'.

The strategy might be put to the test by Redhill CC's two teams in this Saturday's Surrey League 4-up team time trial.

Meanwhile, Jon Masters was yet again the quickest Redhill rider in Round 5 of the club's 2008 time trial series, with a 7 second margin over second-placed clubmate Trevor Chilman.

Dominic Harrison, from Evans Cycles RT, recorded the fastest time of the evening, although it is likely he would have been given a run for his money by the unfortunate Daniel Paine of GS Stella, who, setting off number 3, got to the finish line before the timekeeper could, and was therefore too quick to get an official time.

Round 6 of the series is on Wednesday 11th June, once again at Horsham, followed, on Saturday 14th June, by Redhill CC's inaugural open time trial on the GS/189 course at Faygate.
