Helen heads for Leith Hill

Summer has officially arrived and judging from the relatively large turnout with a mixture of both regular and some new faces on the ride I think everyone would agree getting out on two wheels was the way to start the weekend. With the sun shining and not a rain cloud in sight Helen kindly lead the group round some off-road delights around Westcott.

We started the ride with a bit of climbing with Helen up front pulling the group along at a moderate pace and Fran motoring along at a frightening pace. All the initial hard work resulted in the group landing at the top of Leith Hill where we stopped for a small break to enjoy the surrounding scenery and various delicious cakes on offer at the little tea shop. Thank you very much to Phil for his valiant attempt to take a photo of everyone in the group which practically had him standing in the middle of a nettle bush in order to fit everyone into the shot.

With all our stomachs filled with the energy needed to complete the ride, we once again set off but this time carefully picking our way down the steeper end of Leith Hill. Everyone made it down in one piece grinning from ear to ear. With the huge grin and smiles lighting up everyone’s faces Helen led the group onto more fun filled singletrack where some of the guys enjoyed it so much they literally threw themselves around the course with as much speed as their machine and legs would allow.

The ride finished at the usual time without any major injuries although Peter did have a bit of a nasty fall. I hope he is on the mend and we hope to see you out on another ride again soon.

I just also wanted to say thank you very much to Mike, Mark and Graham for being absolutely brilliant back markers in keeping the group together.

Many thanks,
Grace
