First Saturday Club Run

I was pleasantly surprised to find four members waiting for me at the Angel at 9.00 last Saturday for the first of our monthly Intermediate Rides. These rides cater for members or guests who wish to ride at a more leisurely pace over a shorter distance and those members who cannot always make the Sunday ride.

As the sun was shining and it was a beautiful autumn day we soon got into a good rhythm as we made our way through Nutfield, Outwood and Smallfield on our way to Turners Hill and we had little trouble in maintaining an average speed of about 12 mph. Our tea stop at High Beeches near Handcross enabled us to have a break and enjoy some refreshments and to say farewell to Allan who had to return home early. So it was time for a quick photo and the homeward journey through Colgate, Faygate, Rusper, and Newdigate and back to the Angel at exactly 13.00 after having covered 68 kms, which is about 42 miles at an average speed of about 12.5 mph. A bit further than intended but it does show how the miles can flow when you’re enjoying yourself.
