Dorking to Peaslake via Reynards Hill

19 of us met at Ryka's cafe including 4 led by Adam who had already done the fast ride from Reigate Hill and newcomers Alastair & Toby.

We went along the cycle track by the dual carriageway to Denbies Vineyard and then up the long climb to the top of Ranmore Common, past the church and along the edge of Ranmore Common Road to Ranmore Lodge and then on to Netley Heath.

There were lots of deep puddles and slippery mud sections after the recent heavy rain, which did slow down progress. We then took the steep chalky gully down to Shere and despite several warnings about this treacherous track we had several involuntary dismounts but thankfully nothing worse than grazes and bruises.

Just past Shere we had a puncture stop and this together with re-grouping delays and muddy conditions was beginning to put us behind schedule. We pressed on to Winterfold Wood and up to Reynards Hill where sadly we had to bypass the viewpoint and fantastic views.

Along the road then past the Windmill, I momentarily lost the track down to the Peaslake road due to the recent tree cutting work and debris obliterating the tracks.

After a short break at Peaslake we took the most direct route to Abinger Hammer where the group split into two. Five took the direct main road to Dorking and the rest of us went via Abinger Roughs and along the flint track back to Dorking. We arrived back at about 1.40 pm, total distance 22-23 miles.
