Dave Dent wins Sporting Time Trial

Dave Dent (Wightlink / Wight Mountain RT) narrowly missed out on the course record in the Redhill CC Open 18 mile Sporting Time Trial on Sunday. With a time of 42 minutes and 8 seconds Dent was within 6 seconds of the record set by Andrew Bye in 2007. He also picked up the prize for the Veterans category. The women’s category was won by Kim Hurst (RAF Cycling) in 49:57.

In near perfect conditions but with some challenging and slippery roads a field of almost 70 riders negotiated a course which took in the A25 from Westcott to Abinger Hammer, some twisty roads down to Ockley with a finish South of Dorking on the A24 dual carriageway.

It was a good day out for the Wightlink team who also achieved 1st place in the team competition. RT 316 were second with Redhill CC in third place.

In the Redhill team the quickest ride was put in by Paul Read (45:48) with the rest of the team’s times made up by Jed Rock (47:48) and Duncan Murdoch (49:01).

Redhill Club Chairman Graham Haysom was delighted with the event. ‘The weather was with us and the organisation by the team from Redhill has given us a very successful event. We were pleased to have such a large field and to welcome members of so many clubs’.

Other RedhillCC riders included: Dan Bartley (49:12), Nathan Chamberlain (49:40), Steve Young (50:08), Geoff Clifton (51:40), Alex Bottomley (54:12) and Andrew Ramsey (57:36).
