Climb Every Mountain

The days are getting longer and warmer which must mean that spring is just around the corner and our thoughts turn to long cycle rides in lycra shorts and club jerseys.
Today’s club ride was billed as ‘hilly’ and the warm sunny day may not have made the climbs any less strenuous but it did make them bearable for the eight of us that set off from the Angel. Our small but select group was graced by Alison getting in the miles whilst back in the UK also Dave Ricketts who was giving his road bike a rare outing and young Josh who was feeling the effects of the morning after which certainly affected his climbing.
I had planned the route to take in a couple of warm up climbs before we attacked Minnickfold Hill up to Coldharbour followed by the drop down to Dorking and the climb up to Ranmore. Along the ridge and down towards West Horsley but back up again to the top of Coombe Bottom and the fast descent to the A25 and Shere. No time for a stop as its another climb up to Winterfold and then its all down hill to the tea stop at Cranleigh after 40 strenuous miles.
The return journey was direct and not hilly so we made good time to be back at the Angel shortly after 14.30 and exactly 60 miles.
