Bike Tagging Morning at the Aerodrome

Submitted by adewebb on Thu, 09/22/2011 - 18:28

PS Simon Ward from Surrey Police is planning to bring a team of up to six from 8.30am to the Aerodrome to tag around 30 bikes an hour. This will mean staggered starts for rides on that day but I hope up to 100 of you might come and be there for a photo.

There are two very big benefits for all of us:

1) You get your bike tagged. This is done by applying a special compound with a stencil to the frame that tells the police about the bike if it is seized or turns up in suspicious circumstances. They can then get it back to you. It works because those who nick bikes will usually stray foul of the law on other fronts. If they are then found to be in possession of stolen bikes or trying to pass them on, they feel the full weight of the law

2) A photo in the Surrey Mirror will send a message to bike thieves that RCC bikes are marked... making them more dangerous for thieves to target.

We are trying to negotiate the lowest possible price for this service - it is usually £6 per bike so please bring this much cash along. It's a very small price if you get your bike back if it's stolen!
