As we left the carpark I had a slight idea where I was going but nothing set in stone. We headed on to the roughs and down to Paddington farm with the December sun shining down on us. Yes December sun.
Making our way up to the youth hostel we felt we were missing something, and then on the next trail Mat S came in to view. This is where my lack of planning due to car trouble came to light. Fortunately like all good RCC Mtb rides there was always someone else who has a good idea where the best trails to my chosen destination were. This time Julian H stepped up and led us in the direction of Pitch Hill. As sunny as it was we had to keep moving to ward of the cold so a quick climb up Pitch and then a mad dash down to tea at the shop to take on some energy. Leaving Tea we had the ever social climb to the trigg point at Holmbury. Dropping down yogurt pots and making our way down telegraph we cut it right half way and dropped on to the Horsham road where we crossed and climbed up the back route to Belmont school. Arriving at a road Julian and myself were undecided on wether to go left or right when Dave Mc suggested we go straight on! With trepidation we followed him and true to his word he brought us out at High Ashes farm avoiding one of the climbs. With the gentle climb left up to the tower we could see the end in sight. So a blast in to Summer lightning the full trail and a couple of hundred meters of road and we found our selves back at the Wotton Hatch pub were we had started from. Great ride complete some of us decided it would be rude not to stop for a drink and a slice of pizza courtesy of Gwyn. It doesn’t get much better than that.
