Allan Hopkins took 6th place and Gavin Garrett 7th place out of a field of 50 riders in Round 4 of the Surrey Cycle Racing League evening handicap series.
The race was held over 8 laps of a challenging 4-mile course around Wivelsfield Green., combining some fast straight sections with some awkward climbs that had most of the riders out of the saddle. The leading group of 12 riders with Allan and Gavin in it, got organised and worked well together as a bunch from the beginning of the race, managing to maintain a 2 minute advantage on the chasing groups for six of the eight laps of the race. Whilst this gap decreased right down in the last two laps, the leading bunch was able to sprint to the line knowing that they remained clear of the chasing groups. The next round of the race series takes place over the fast, triangular course at Kitsmead Lane near Chertsey.
