The Waterproof Tester

There wasn't a very big turnout at the Drome. And it shrank even further when the persistent drizzle started persisting down even harder and some retreated (sensibly) to the Cafe.  In the end, perhaps 30 people headed off into the weather to test their waterproofs...

And the waterproofs will have gotten a proper testing. The G2 posse were fairly much soaked before leaving the Drome which just left enough time to test how long it takes for water to penetrate: a. The overshoes b. the shoes and socks inside (answer 1 minute) c. the gloves (about 15 minutes) d) the sense of humour (never).

It wasn't pleasant but it was quite fun in the end. We scooted on relatively traffic free roads round the simple Axes Lane, Lodge Lane, Horley, Hookwood, Charlwood, Rusper route to Tanhouse.

Tanhouse was like a cyclists' Turkish bath with groups from all over the county seeking warm places to dry out their steaming jackets, arm warmers, shoes etc in the vain hope that putting them on and heading home might be less unpleasant.

It was one of the longer teastops.

And we decided to add in an extra loop. Oh no we didn't!!! Everyone was cold but righteous and headed directly back. Regrets for going out: none. Lessons: very few things in life are waterproof apart from the skin you put into them!

What makes it worse writing this after the event is that many of us were there having believed the BBC forecast that Saturday was going to be relatively OK and Sunday apocalyptic with gales. In the end Sunday was warm, sunny and fresh.

Finally, thanks to Rick for leading... a task suitable for a stoic.
