The Views were Good.

It’s great riding on a bright sunny winter’s day: the light is good, the sunshine a welcome bonus and the views uninterrupted by foliage on the hedges and trees coming up with unexpected surprises not seen in summer.

It helps having a small group (Michelle, Adrian and Nick) in various states of tiredness, unfitness and dis-repair who all seemed unfazed by the “steady” pace of the ride.

The route to Four Elms? Back-to-front route via South Godstone and Hurst Green, with the little loop round Coopers Corner and Bough Beech added to legitimise it as a G2.

The coffee and service at The Elms was excellent as usual and the temperature inside sauna like. After a longish natter heading back out into the cold air was a shock, but the sun was still shining.

The route back was the straight flat way via Edenbridge and Haxted where we were overtaken by an enormous group of G3-or-so-ers. After that excitement we continued on our more serene way. Nick and Adrian peeled off at the top of Kings Mill Lane leaving Michelle and me to cruise back to the ‘Drome.

Nice ride, nice stop, nice group and the views really were good.
