Misty moments

It was a soft focus day last Saturday and the ride one of nostalgia for me as we tackled trails I haven't visited for ages.

Nine started from Milton Heath car park, avoiding the armed guard of brambles that caught us last time. Heading west and then up to Wolvens Lane we took the descent down to Simon's Cottage. From Broadmoor we followed the familiar Redland rooty trail down to Friday Street and up again to Abinger Common.

Time seemed to be short so I cut out the loop to Holmbury St Mary but ploughed on to the Greensand trail taking us back to the Leith Hill Tower and tea. We were nearly made welcome!

The gloom of the day and dank air had us back in the saddle very quickly. Geoff and Moji had pressing business so cut out the last leg (as I seem to have done in this picture!).

Down the first stretch of the Summer Lightning and then a surprising left at the bottom took us down the splashy track that parallels the Tilling Bourne. We scrambled over the first ridge to drop down and climb again to the last doings of the Summer Lightning. Racing north we found Wolvens Lane and a bit of single track which had been lurking in my memory.

Plunging down through the firs to Squires Farm it was another short climb and then across surprisingly rideable fields through Bury Fisheries.

I short-changed everyone by 8 minutes so we could have done that loop after all!
