Grimpeurs, Rouleurs and Domestique

Four G2 stalwarts took the option of my slightly quicker G2 on a slightly autumnal morning at the 'Drome. A less than obvious route was promised in order to insert a hill into the ride.

Nick after a few weeks absence and Jill just back from another epic continental trip joined Heidi, Hedley and me as we headed to Newdigate and Capel. Onwards and upwards via Broomehall Lane to Coldharbour and the lovely roll down Coldharbour Lane (almost car free for once).

The Grimpeur(s)? Well, Hedley of course, (this time!) must be end-of-season blues or maybe the rest of us are all just average Rouleurs (although our pace was brisk at that point).

Anyway, round Dorking and Leatherhead to Bookham and Domestique where, resplendent in his pinny, Brian served up his usual excellent coffee while we sat ouside in the warm sunny-ish conditions for probably a little too long.

So suffering a dose of Post Teastop Stiffness Syndrome, our pace dropped as we climbed up Chapel Lane, down onto the A24 and back towards home. Jill and Nick dropped off at Flanchford Road and Woodhatch respectively as usual. Some frivulous sprinting up Kings Mill Lane confirmed our status as non-specialists.

Never mind, a nice ride in warm autumn sunshine with the best company. Perfect.

45 miles at mid-G2 pace, one hill and one lump after tea - a bog-standard G2 for bog-standard Rouleurs.
