G6 did not opt for the 'Steady Ride'

Another good turn out at the Drome including a samall group of G6 riders.

Philip Jemmison suggested that we might like them to lead us out. After I declined the offer, 15 of us left for Lewes including 2 guests from Nick White's MTB club. The route took us over Turners Hill, Sharpthorne (where Bruce headed back), Wych Cross, Nutley, Isfield and then through the back lanes to Glynde and Lewes.

The tea shop in Glynde village did not open until 12 so we continued to Bills in Cliffe High Street. As usual, it was very busy but we managed to find enough tables in the overflow along a small alley alongside. In the interests of time, the Big Vin issued a strict order that no cooked meals were to be ordered! After tea, coffee, cake, we cast envious glances at customers devouring all day breakfasts and headed back through Lewes and home via Wivelsfield, Haywards Heath and Balcombe.

Despite the hills, we managed the 75 miles at an average speed of 15 mph.

Mike Ormerod.
