Mud and a sun tan.

Using bridleways littered with fallen trees from the recent storms, it was little wonder that Saturdays ride from Reigate Hill was slow going at times.

Starting with a brisk pace along the North Downs ridge to the top of Pebble Coombe had everyone nicely warmed up. By then we had lost Marcus to a lost pedal and Phil who decided to do some sightseeing. From here we access Headley Heath, with a couple of really nice off piste paths through bracken, drop offs and logs.

The long muddy drag to Box Hill is the price we pay for a perfect(ly slippery) China Pig.

Along the road to Westhumble, we climb, using a new path to Ranmore Common.  A fast muddy descent as Polesden Lacey is in sight.  Sitting outside, enjoying the winter sun and hot sausage rolls.

The second half starts by riding to Fetcham Downs, to make the most of Druids Grove, a twisty single track lined with box trees. It was after the hard climb up to Mickleham Downs that we encountered most of the fallen trees, the bridleway was completely blocked. Our only option was a thorny push through undergrowth to continue.  Back to Reigate Hill by 3.15pm and feeling satisfied with 27 hard muddy miles.
