Descending through Sharpthorne, Paul Burgess lost his front wheel and smashed into the kerb on the far side of the road. He was at the back with Jane Fletcher, who was the only one who saw the incident. Jane called an ambulance which took Paul to East Surrey Hospital. When we realised that they not with us, after waiting, Richard, Jane's husband turned back. The rest of us continued an uneventful ride to the Station cafe on the Lavender Line at Isfield. The weather ws kind to us, it rained lightly for 10 minutes. The cafe was up to its usual high standard. A few complaints about the hills; the offer of a short detour to take in Ardingly reservoir was voted down.
