Having promised everyone a route without any of our more notorious climbs in it (I’d forgotten about Crocknorth Road), we got stuck straight in to Fullers Wood Lane before dropping down Cormongers Lane, through Merstham, up Harps Oak Lane and then down the normally fast White Hill descent having felt we earned it.
Our route then took us through Walton Heath, down Hurst Road where what would have been a fast descent was brought to a stop by a horsebox, and on through Leatherhead. We took the fast road up through Bookham, Stoke d’Abernon and Cobham before heading off through the nice Plough Lane - Ockham Lane – Guilleshill Lane – Hungry Hill Lane – Thythebarns Lane route to Clandon Road and the tea stop in the garden centre next to Clandon Park.
Suitably refuelled, we took the picturesque Surrey lanes of Staple Lane - Coombe Lane - Green Dene before hitting Crocknorth Lane, thence on over Ranmore Common down Church Lane and up the zig zags before heading for home down Pebble Hill for a total of around 54 miles. A
n enjoyable ride with a strong group and blessed with no mechanicals.
