'Marvelous' Mark Vincent on his continued return from long term injury, probably wishes I was not writing this report - but here goes! Nine of us set out for a long, but slow, G1 to Sumners Ponds with the benefit of a GPX file downloaded to MV's Garmin.
It was clear after 3 miles that this was going in reverse, as Tower Hill did not feature on the route out! We lost Roy and Dave and Jamie after Rusper and after I did a 2 mile loop back (thanks Mark) and then ascertained they were fine, we carried on past the the Brookhurst Landfill (nice smell!). We then had a 5 minute wait at Warnham level crossing umming and arrghing over the steps under the track before the train passed and then we finally made it to Sumners Pond for some very nice nosh.
The picture shows Debbie,Simon,Dave, Richard B, and me in front of the lake looking forward to a long ride back to the drome. MV took the pic and is clearly now on the road to recovery after copious amounts of bacon and eggs!
It has to be said it was a tremendous ride of 54 miles at just over 13 mph ave - a record for a G1 and fantastic company from the newcomers!
