Rupert Burbidge capped off a brilliant 2011 season with the presentation of no fewer than 3 individual awards at the SCCU annual luncheon on Sunday 6th November
A glittering array of trophies, many dating back over a hundred years were presented to some of the Southern Counties' fastest riders at a splendid luncheon at Rowfant House.
For individual events Rupert picked up the Bill Diplo Trophy after winning the CDAC Sporting 21 in the Spring. He was awarded the Tom Smith Cup for being the fastest SCCU rider over 100 miles (3h 55m if you want to have a go at it).
However the key victory went to Rupert in the SCCU Best All Rounder competition which aggregates performances over 25, 50 and 100 miles. Rupert won with an average speed of 27.086mph, just 0.06mph faster than Nick Dwyer of Lewis Wanderers in second place. This result meant that he retained the Claude Butler Trophy. All awards were presented by the SCCU President Graham Bristow
Well done Rupert for holding your own against fierce competition, especially from Lewes Wanderers who scooped all the (enormous) team awards. Something for us to aim for in 2012...
