The first Gorrick Autumn Classic race took place on Sunday, with eight RCC off-road riders taking up the challange. The twisty singletrack course at Swinley Forest had many off-camber roots to keep people on their toes, and a few technical sections to test the skills of anyone wanting to ride them at speed. Monika had a fantastic race in the Open Female category, and took first place from a field of 12 riders, improving on her best position of third from last year. This was despite losing a few minutes by following some other riders off-course on the first lap, and having to fight her way back to the front again on the second. A trophy engraved with her name awaits collection at the next race. Another podium position was gained by one of RCC's Raiders, Freddie Davy, who took 3rd place from 12 riders in the under 12's category. I entered the Open Male category and came 17th out of 91 riders, and only 2 minutes away from a top 10 finish. Next time. Kharl and Julian also entered the Open Male, taking 25th and 47th place respectively. Alex entered the age-bounded Master Male category and came 19th out of 44. Jeremy decided to try the shorter Fun category having two laps rather than three, and had a good result of 25 out of 82. Jack also did the Fun category and came 34th, comfortably beating his dad who took 39th. The Gorrick races add a competitive element to your riding, and almost every level of rider can compete without fear of finishing too far down the field, especially in the Fun category.
