It seem fitting that the planned exploration ride to Biggin Hill took place during the 70th anniversary of the battle of Britain weekend. This aerodrome, as most people know, played a pivotal role during the defence of Britain at that time. With the back by 12o clock rule limitation and the earmarked, never tackled, North Downs hills on route looming, seven riders opted for an early eight o clock start. The plan was to take to the country roads to Biggin Hill and then descent off the downs flat out on A233 to Westerham for tea at the Tudor Rose. Then fast track on a high flat pace home via Lingfield The hills in question were Philanthropic Road / Sandy lane to the A25 Ganger Hill ascending the North Down Skid Hill Lane Saltbox Hill to the Aerodrome (15% gradient) Crockham Hill to Lingfield after tea stop. 46 miles @ 16.5 - 17mph
