Redhill dominate Dunsfold!

Monumental efforts, true grit and real drama...all in one race! An incredible TWELVE Redhill riders assembled on the start line on this breezy evening, three in their first ever race: Paul Miller, Angus Brown and John McMullen. At the start, the boys discussed tactics and everyone agreed ... well, I won't say here, our competitors might be reading!! But Jonathan was quite clear, he was going to attack right from the start and teaming up with another rider, quickly built a lead of over a minute. Meanwhile, the rest of the Redhill field were working hard, Charl at the front again but responding to my shouts to get out of the wind! (I wasn't riding tonight) But on lap two, first timer John McMullan blew up and retired, then Steve Taylor hit the one pothole on the circuit, and fearing damage, also retired. The field churned on and by lap seven they started to close the gap on Jonathan and his partner. By lap eight, the brave breakaway was gobbled up , Jonathan later reported 1hr 1min for 25 miles. Howard Dyson made a valiant effort, clearly determined to improve on last weeks finish. On lap nine the pace exploded and it looked like Angus and Maurice Brennan would stay in front but the big sprint always changes the picture. BARRY GERHOLD powered over the line to win 5th, in just his second race, ANGUS BROWN seized 7th in his first ever race. Paul Miller finished well, close to Olly Gin and Stuart Greig, just back from two weeks in the sun and straight back on the track! Peter Farnfield, joining Redhill tonight for his first 'club ride', rode well. We're awaiting the full results. The enthusiasm and impatience for the next race was the main topic of conversation afterwards! Hard training is already scheduled in. Newchapel and Newdigate here we come!
