Avoiding the climb through Denbies, we kicked off by trundling up Ranmore from behind, then a bit of descending back down it, and finally one last run south to the ridge before dropping down into the Abinger Roughs. A long uphill run lead us up to Holmbury for a tilt at Yoghurt Pots, ending with a crash by someone who shall remain nameless, and finally up to Leith Hill for a slightly later than usual cake stop. Yet another tyre problem for me (it went down again on the way home from Reigate, for anyone keeping score) led to a split in the group between those who needed to get home fast and those who with time to spend at leisure. Both groups took the full run down Summer Lightning, but different routes over Ranmore and ended up back at Rykas at about the same time, where ice cream, smoothies and bacon rolls provided a bit more fuel for those making their way back to Reigate. All in all, a beautiful day on the trails (you could see Chanctonbury Ring on the South Downs from Reigate Hill!), with a special mention to Ben Instone who came out on his cross bike to remind us you don't need fat tyres and suspension to blast up and down the hills. Any other cross bikes gathering dust in sheds?
