Early Teastop Sets Up Intermediates

After another amazing turnout at Woodhatch Park, the Social Intermediates watched the massive throng of Shorter Social Intermediates (many of whom are actually quite tall) set off... we then embarked on an awesome ride taking in some fabulous hills and descents.

Eight riders zoomed off in the sunshine.
- Anthony, a strong new starter
- Simon, in training for the Etape Caledonian
- James, impeccable road skills and manners as ever
- Plus seasoned regulars: Maria, Kaaren, Lisa, Adrian and Chris

The route wiggled 12 miles through Brockham and up over Punchbowl Lane before a lovely fresh ascent of Box Hill. We then headed for an early teastop to the excellent Walton-on-the-Hill Cafe Chocolat. Lots of room for bikes outside and excellent coffee.

Adrian and Maria needed to be back early, so left us to head back to Reigate while the remainder of us went through West Humble up Chapel Lane to Bookham which was an appreciable 20% climb. Then left along the A246 to East Clandon where Lisa and Chris did a little chainganging.

Next, up Shere Road - a nice gentle climb to make a rider suffer. Kaaren left the ride to go home nearby at this point while the rest of us went along Combe Lane, up Crocknorth ascent, along Ranmore down to Dorking and North Holmwood (where Chris departed absolutely exhausted, and cramping) to leave the remainder to head back to Leigh and Woodhatch.

Thank you to all riders this was an awesome ride where as a leader I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Distance 54 miles.
Average speed 14.7, target at the beginning of the day was between 14 and 15 mph.
