Spring flowers and sunshine - Lewes and back

The eight riders who arrived at Woodhatch for a social ride to Lewes included one newcomer, Matthew Charles, and one lady, Chris, who is fairly new to the club.

Mike Conway and Stu both wanted to get home early and turned back at different points. I had selected a slightly different route and, of course, missed a turn and ended up on the A272 to Lewes instead of going through Glynde. However, nobody complained as we shortened the route by about 5 miles and cut out some hills. Instead we had a fast, fairly flat run into the town. The Buttercup café served excellent leaf tea and a slice of fruit cake nearly twice the size supplied by most other establishments - and it was topped with a fresh strawberry and bitter chocolate!

Suitably refreshed we rode in the sun down lanes adorned with a great display of wild Spring flowers. We completed 70 miles, which Chris told me was the furthest she had even ridden.

Next week: Graham Haysom takes a ride to Seale, at the foot of the Hog’s Back.
